What Is A MIDI?
A MIDI file is yet another type of file in the audio file formatting group. MIDI files are quite different, and far less common than either the MP3 files or the WAV files. MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. MIDI songs, if done as intended when the file formatting was created, do not have voice. They are the work of instruments and synthesizers only. A MIDI file is a way for the keyboard, electric instruments, mixers, and other electronic musical instruments to record their music. The idea is that people in the music industry would have a standard format file to record and share their music. MIDI software is available online, and you can find one for free easily. Note that there are players, which simply allow you to hear MIDI songs, and there are editors, which will permit you to make changes. Free MIDIs Free MIDI files, like all other audio files, are available somewhere online. Because MIDI is not a popular format, however, finding a free MIDI will take a bit more detective work but can be done. On some of the more popular file-sharing sites, you can search by file type. In these more complex site designs, you will be able to look specifically for free MIDI songs if there is an instrumental piece you really want to hear. If you are looking for free MIDI music, it means that you likely are looking for classical music or for the instrumental version of popular songs. These songs are not going to be as common with the general public, so you may have to spend a bit more time looking.

MIDI Marketing
Like other free online downloads, some musicians and companies are using free MIDIs as a marketing tool. A company may offer a MIDI file for free if they are trying to sell their sheet music, for example. Musicians who have written compositions and want to get them noticed by give others their free MIDI files to show off their work. Checking out these types of files is a pretty easy process. MIDI files, like WAV files, are uncompressed, but unlike the WAV, they are really small. That is because the MIDI files are of music online. The thing that makes other audio files so large is the fact that they have voices on them. The voices are pretty heavy as far as file requirements, so they take up a lot more room than something that is just instrumental. |
